Stickbaits - Floating

Floating stickbaits will traditionally be of a lighter weight than a sinking stick bait. Your selection of floating and sinking stickbaits to suit your rod may vary according to your rods specifications. You will also need to take into account the extra weight of hooks and split rings that will most likely need o be added as most (not all) lures will come un-rigged. There are so many different rigging alternatives i.e,  2 x trebles,  2 x off set eye single hooks,  inline singles, the well known ‘Baker Rig’ or a mixture of single and trebles. There is no one perfect rigging method and maintaining a good balance is the key to great lure action and presentation.

It is becoming increasingly more popular to run single hook combinations on stick baits although it is not mandatory. To select a great choice of floating stick bait you first need to know your rods lure weight range/specifications. From here we can make a selection of floating stick baits by their weight (including hooks and split rings) based on the formula of 20-25% less than the maximum weight range of your rod. This is just a general guide only but it will help you choose lures that will be well matched to your rods casting capabilities.
